“Beautiful liminal soundtrack work from the Opalio brothers, originally scored to accompany Roberto Opalio’s Alien Blood film that was shown as part of the Sonic Youth: Sensational Fix museum exhibition in an art edition of only 220 copies: a heady, nocturnal trip from MCIAA with distant pin-pricks of light singing beyond the horizon like orchestras of tiny angelic insects. Very minimal weeping single note guitar reveries that come over like an emotionally catatonic Loren Connors give way to choruses of shimmering cymbal work and subtle almost-Nurse With Wound style automating small instrument sci-fi. The piece builds and expands with smaller gestures and F/X modulated percussive tattoos giving it the feel of a Harry Partch or Harry Bertoia sound sculpture, slowly spinning in space, as single notes flicker like lonely satellites and bright constellations pulse in the mouth of soft, droning tunnels of heavenly reverb. One of the most eerily beautiful MCIAA releases in art paper sleeves with paste on art and insert. Comes with a download, recommended.”
