Excerpts from BYRON COLEY's liner booklet :

"The 2006 edition of ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas festival was one of the signal events of the early 21st Century. Curated by Thurston Moore, held at the Butlin Holiday camp in Mineshead, England from the 8th to the 10th of December, the line-up was almost beyond belief.

[..] This Sunday dinnertime concert at Red's was the first time I'd gotten to see a live show by MCIAA, whose music I knew from their most excellent records, tapes, CDRs and whatnot. They did not disappoint.

Playing instruments I could not quite make out in the murky light (at least partly because apart from a guitar, they didn't really seem to look like many instruments I'd seen before), the Opalio brothers began their set with what sounded like emptying a vacuum cleaner full of locusts into a small swimming pool filled with percussion instruments and a choir of dentists. These sounds seemed to emanate from boxes and a tableful of stuff, and that guitar I mentioned. Although when I listen back to the tape of the show, I still get confused trying to pick up and identify sounds in the mix. I mean, were there really horns and that many bells?

Having seen MCIAA subsequently, and more soberly, I can report that my confusion was probably a bit unwarranted. I mean, these guys can come on stage with just two thimbles and turn it into a cosmic hurricane. A lot of what they do just emanates from their bodies. [..] those Opalio boys... I dunno what the fuck it is they eat. But music comes out of them in gusts.

And on this night, on the South West coast of England, amidst one of the finest musical events organized in the history of sound, they were gusting like goddamn monsters. It was pretty fucking nuts.

As the brothers have been heard to say, "Our wildest show ever, in the wildest festival ever!"

No argument."
